Selecting a field type is the most important part of the design process!

Visual effects like fonts, margins or field order can be modified anytime.

Once created the field type can’t be changed!

The field’s type determines what kind of data the field can store. Please, make sure it will fit your requirements before adding any production data.

Some of the field types are used for generic content like: text, paragraph, static text. The others are designed for a specific type of data like: email, phone, name, address, etc.

Field Types

Field Type	Description
Checkbox Group	To keep your data consistent and standardized. Can have up to 12 checkboxes. Used for data entry only. The field will show up on a page as comma-delimited values. Label is displayed inline, before the field value e.g. Departments: Marketing, IT, Bookkeeping The label won’t show up if field has no data. Static label is optional.
Drop-Down List	To keep your data consistent and standardized. You can add a default value. Used for data entry only. The field will show up on the page as a text.
Drop-Down + Static Label	To keep your data consistent and standardized. Used for data entry only. The field will show up on the page as a text. Label is displayed inline, before the field value e.g. Department: Marketing The label won’t show up if field has no data. Static label is optional.
Drop-Down Group	To keep your data consistent and standardized. Can have up to 12 drop-down lists. All of them contain the same items. Used for data entry only. The field will show up on a page as comma-delimited values. Label is displayed inline, before the field value e.g. Departments: Marketing, IT, Bookkeeping The label won’t show up if field has no data. Static label is optional.
Email	Text link. Opens email client. Social icon can be used instead of email field type.
Email with Static Text	Text link. Opens email client. The same text will be used for all of the mailto hyperlinks.
Hyperlink	Text hyperlink. Can be used for any internal or external link. Has an option to open in a new page or tab.
Hyperlink with Static Text	Hyperlinks that require static text. Label is the same for all records. Label is displayed on the same line as the hyperlink.
Horizontal Line	Horizontal line (divider) between field sections. Easy to customize. Use build in (custom CSS) or your own custom styles.
Icon Font – Star Rating	To add a couple of icons as a way of indicating a status or rank.. Requires Font Awesome or some other icon font.
Icon Font with Links	You can easily add a couple of custom icons with hyperlinks. This field type can contain up to six icons. Requires Font Awesome or some other icon font.
Image with Caption	Not related to built-in staff member image. You can add an image as one of the input fields. Caption is optional.
Image Hyperlink with Caption	Not related to built-in staff member image. You can add hyperlinked image as one of the input fields. Caption is optional.
Name Multipart	Has five parts. Recommended for person name: first, middle, last, suffix, etc. Shows all content on a single line. You can display individual parts in different order on staff and single pages.
Paragraph Text	Use this field for a longer text input. Accepts most of HTML tags and provides more room for data entry. HTML manual entry only. No visual editing. Won’t retain formatting when copy and paste from other applications.
Phone	Creates hyperlink click to call. You can add custom classes to to match your site.
Phone with Static Label	Creates hyperlink click to call. Example: Mobile: 098-765-4321 Static label is displayed in line, next to the phone number. The same label will show up on all records. The label won’t show up if field has no data. You can add custom classes to to match your site.
Post Title	Build-in input field. Can display data on staff and single pages. Can be used for sorting records.
QR Code Image Base64 Dynamic	Create dynamic QR Code. Staff List vCard plugin extension has to be installed and activated.
QR Code Image Base64 Static	Create static QR Code. Staff List vCard plugin extension has to be installed and activated.
Shortcode	Provides the simple way to execute a shortcode. Shortcode output will render as a part of the staff list page content.
Single Line Text	For short entries. Accepts most of HTML tags. Data examples: job title, department name. location…
Single Page Text Link	Simple way to create text hyperlink to a single page. Only one field of this type can be added to a template. Location: Template Options > Single Page Options > Link Text. You do not create this field but turn it On/Off (Show Link: Yes/No). Behaves as any other field. Can be styled and ordered.
Sort Text	Display it to check your custom sort order values. Hide it when not needed.
Staff Categories	Displays comma delimited list of staff member categories. You can exclude some of the categories from listing.
Static Label + Date	To keep your data consistent and standardized. Saves data in ISO8601 format – YYYY-MM-DD. Used for data entry only. The field will show up on the page as a text. Static label is optional.
Static Label + Paragraph Text	Use this field for a longer text input. Accepts most of HTML tags and provides more room for data entry. HTML manual entry only. No visual editing. Won’t retain formatting when copy and paste from other applications. Label is displayed on the separate line, above the field content. Label can be styled differently from the text.
Static Label (inline) + Text	Label is displayed on the same line as the text. The same label will show up on all records. The label won’t show up if field has no data. Accepts most of HTML tags. Label can be styled differently from the text. Location: Downtown.
Static Label (above) + Text	Label is displayed on the separate line, above the field content. The same label will show up on all records. The label won’t show up if field has no data. Accepts most of HTML tags. Label can be styled differently from the text: Location Downtown.
Static Text	Can be used as section header. Can be linked to other fields and hidden if linked fields contain no data.
Text Editor	A longer text input requiring custom formatting. Field uses TinyMCE editor with both Visual and Text options available. May retain some of the formatting when copy and paste from other applications.
vCard Hyperlink	Create and download vCard file. Staff List vCard plugin extension has to be installed and activated.
